Brian Osborn
Meditation Mentor
Brian first started meditating using books as his only guide, looking to embrace a peaceful way of life. While it somewhat helped, Brian knew that he needed some personal advice and guidance to progress in meditation. He found his way to a teacher and also discovered that meditating with a group is powerful. Brian states that his journey has been like travelling along a road that is sometimes flat and easy, interspersed with steep and windy parts. The steep parts occurred when Brian found himself having not meditated for a week, a month, or several months! Even during those steep parts of life, Brian felt he still retained an awareness - of what was happening and how he was acting, he knew regular meditation was the answer to having a smoother journey through life. Brian has been meditating, learning Yoga Philosophy as well as Buddhist philosophy, for the last 10 years and wishes to share his experience with those learning to meditate. As a meditation mentor at BMS, Brian’s intention is to share the joys of meditation and living mindfully. Brian strongly believes that meditation has helped deal with the challenges that have arisen and continue to arise in his life. Brian wishes to spread the peace and safety that comes with being part of a sangha.

Karen Chapman
Meditation Mentor
Karen was first introduced to meditation at the end of a Yoga class in New Zealand, during her late 20s. Following this, Karen signed up for a 8-week meditation class and found meditation to be calming, bringing forth feelings of relaxation. Since then, she continued to explore meditation. In her work as a massage therapist, Karen found herself moving into a peaceful state, tuning into the person and becoming absorbed into the healing process. Over the time, Karen found her main challenges with meditation were working with the monkey mind and making time to sit for meditation. These challenges resulted in long lengths of time where Karen didn’t practice at all. Around 2016, Karen reconnected with her practise through Yoga Philosophy study and deepened her practise of meditation. Karen likes to use a technique or a visualisation to start her meditation. Karen found that meditation has helped her through some very challenging life events and helped in transforming certain experiences which makes her eager to share her experience with others. As a mentor at BMS, Karen's intention is to be a sounding board for others, while continuing to strengthen her own practise.
