***Ultimate Purpose of Yoga***
Dissolution of the mind resulting from a complete absorption in stillness is known in Yoga terminology as ‘Samadhi’. Samadhi is the final stage of meditation described in various Yoga texts. It is also the eighth limb of the 8-limb yoga process.
There is no difference between the state of ‘Yoga’ and the state of ‘Samadhi’. In fact, there are many names that get used interchangeably in Yoga text, to represent this state of unification.
What is important to note is that what was originally referred to as the practise of ‘Yoga’ is the vast variety of methods that enable one to reach the state of above-mentioned unification.
Living ethically, practising yoga poses, chanting, practicing breathing exercises, developing various beneficial attitudes toward life, overcoming the pull of the senses, learning to discipline the mind and loosening the grip of thoughts, feelings and identity on the mind through meditation are some of the Yoga practises. The list doesn’t end there.
The misconception that Yoga means a set of poses is due to our obsession with the material aspect of ourselves i.e. the human body. It is my intention to spread the true teachings of Yoga that enables us to experience stillness a.k.a pure presence.
Love,
Prabha
